Mount Olympus is the highest point on Cyprus at 1,950 metres. Known locally as Chionistra.

Mt. Olympus listening station is a part of the ECHELON group of listening posts established after the UK-USA agreement. From here it is rumored that every communication can be monitored throughout the Middle East by the Anglo-Saxon alliance.

    <title>A Passage</title>

Nicosia, known locally as Lefkosia (Greek) or Lefkosha (Turkish), is the capital and largest city of Cyprus. It is located at 35*10&amp;#039;N, 33*21&amp;#039;E. Located on the Pedieos river and situated almost in the centre of the island, it is the seat of government as well as the main business centre. Nicosia is the center and capital of the Nicosia District.

Following the intercommunal violence of the 1960&amp;#039;s the capital was divided between the island&amp;#039;s Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities in the south and north respectively. An attempted coup to unite the island with Greece in 1974 led to a Turkish Invasion, leaving the capital permanently divided, with Turkish Cypriots claiming the north as the capital of their own state, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) (recognised only by Turkey). On April 3, 2008, as part of efforts to reunify the island, a symbolic wall dividing the two communities at Ledra Street was opened.

South of the Green Line, the population of the city is 270,000 (end of 2004), while a further 84,893 live in the Turkish Cypriot administered areas. Nicosia is a modern, dynamic capital with many shops, two modern shopping malls, restaurants and entertainment. The city is a trade center and manufactures textiles, leather, pottery, plastic, and other products. Copper mines are nearby. Nicosia is the seat of the University of Cyprus (UCY) and four other universities.

One bad thing about the city (not mentioning it being divided) is summer heat. Due to pecularities of the landscape, summer temperatures in the capital are considerably higher then in most other places of the island, so people try to escape from the city in summer whenever they can.
